SwapFTL version for Windows 2000/XP Version 1.06


          ------ Warning ----- 

please read carefully the text below before you insert
any PCMCIA Card into your system; and follow the steps
described below. 
The Installation of the SwapFTL driver needs some deeper
knowledge about Windows 2000/XP. For a Windows 2000/XP
novice we recommend to get support from a more experienced
user to realized this installation.



1. Installation:

Start "Setup.exe" on the installation disk or directory.
The setup program will copy all needed files to your local hard disk.
You do not need to reboot the PC.
Remove the installation disk from the drive now, otherwise
you will run in problems with the next installation steps. 


2. Select the SwapFTL Driver

When you insert a Memory PC Card:

procedure for Windows 2000:
-a dialog pop's up "found new hardware"
-Click "next" in the "Found new hardware wizard" to go to the next screen.
-Choose "Display a list of the known drivers..." and click "next".
-Select "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers", click "next".
-Select "SCM Microsystems" on the left side and "SwapFTL PCMCIA Memory Card"
 on the right side and click "next".

A warning message pops up that the driver is not for this device. You should
ignore this warning, click on "Yes". Click on "next". A new warning message
will inform you that windows can not find a signature for the driver.
You should ignore this warning and click on "Yes".
Click on "Finish".

procedure for Windows XP:
-a dialog pop's up "Found new Hardware Wizard"
-Choose "Install from a list or ..." and click "Next"
-Select ""Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" and go to the
 next screen by click on "Next".
-Select "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers", click "Next"
-Select "SCM Microsystems" on the left side and "SwapFTL PCMCIA Memory Card"
 on the right side and click "next".

A warning message pops up that the driver is not for this device. You should
ignore this warning by clicking on "Yes". A new warning message pops up
that the driver has not passed the Windows Logo program for Windows XP.
We did comprehensive testing in-house but never send the driver to Microsoft
to get the signature.
You should ignore this message too and click on "Continue Anyway".

Now you should have a new drive letter in the "My Computer" window,
and the SwapFTL Format can be used.
